Cascadian Cup, DiamondBack™ Gripper, Mesh Bag Made in China Cleaning: Before using any GSI Outdoors Cookware for the first time, always wash with hot water and mild detergent at home and dry immediately. Non-stick coated pans can be seasoned prior to initial use for optimum performance by lightly coating the interior surface with cooking oil and wiping off the excess with a dry paper towel. Never use abrasive cloths, sponges or cleansers with GSI Outdoors non-stick coated or Enamelware cookware. Avoid soaking non-stick coated pans in soapy water as the surface can retain the soapy flavor. If a residue develops on the non-stick surface of a pan, it will burn and stain the pan and taint the flavor of your food. Residue and stains can be removed with a more vigorous cleaning or with specially designed cleansers specific to non-stick surfaces. Glacier Stainless cookware can actually be cleaned out with sand and a clean, dry cloth. Boiling water works ideally as a soaking and cleaning agent for any GSI Outdoors cookware when you are in the field. After boiling, you should strain off any food bits into your waste bag to limit your environmental impact. Always allow your cookware to dry thoroughly before packing it up and never attempt to rapidly cool any GSI Outdoors cookware. Cooking: Due to the lightweight nature of outdoor cookware and the difficult to control, high temperature design of most backpacking stoves, the pieces are much easier to overheat than your pots and pans at home. When cooking, never heat GSI Outdoors cookware to extreme temperatures or allow it to boil dry. Typically, medium and low heat work best. Do not allow the flames from your stove to extend beyond the base of the cookware. Non-stick cookware should be used with heat-proof nylon or silicone utensils to prevent damage to the non-stick surface. Glacier Stainless steel cookware and other uncoated cookware is safe for use with all utensils as are the revolutionary Pinnacle non-stick coated pots and frypans. For best results, cookware and any oil, butter or other shortening should always be brought to temperature before adding your ingredients. GSI Outdoors non-stick coated cookware does require any shortening or cooking oil to prevent your food from sticking. Avoid the use of non-stick sprays with GSI Outdoors non-stick coated cookware as this can develop a residue which will impair your cookware’s function and taint the flavor of your food. Glacier Stainless items should be used with an appropriate cooking oil or other shortening to prevent sticking and facilitate proper release. Sweating and other low heat techniques are ideal for use with butter, olive oil or other vegetable oil. Higher heat techniques, like sautéing are best suited for oils with higher smoke points, like refined canola oil, peanut oil or safflower oil. Otherwise, your oil may burn and ruin your entire meal. After cooking, wipe out any leftover oil and add new oil before cooking again as the heating process reduces the smoke-point every time the oil is cooked. GSI Outdoors cookware has been designed to make gourmet cookware portable and is quite well suited to any techniques which you may use with your home cookware provided that you are careful to control the heat. |
